Ingredients

  • 3 eggs
  • 140 g powdered sugar
  • 180 g wheat flour
  • 140 g butter
  • 1 pinch vanillin
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 80 ml milk for the chocolate batter
  • 15 g cocoa powder for the chocolate batter

Method

  1. Beat the room-temperature butter until pale, add the powdered sugar, vanillin and salt, and continue beating.
  2. Add the eggs one at a time, beating the mixture well after each one.
  3. Sift in the flour with the baking powder and fold in. Transfer a third of the batter to another bowl, add the cocoa and milk, and mix.
  4. Grease a rectangular loaf tin with butter. Pour in the plain batter first, then the chocolate batter on top, and spread it evenly.
  5. Bake for 50-60 minutes in an oven preheated to 170°C, check for doneness with a skewer. Let the finished cake cool, then slice.

Tips

  • The butter must be at room temperature, otherwise it won't whip up pale.
  • Add the eggs one at a time, beating the mixture well after each addition.
  • Check for doneness with a skewer: it should come out dry.
