Course: Buns and rolls
Cuisine: Home cooking

Ingredients

Dough
  • 2 cups flour
  • 50 g margarine cold
  • salt pinch
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 100 ml milk cold
  • 1 egg white
  • 1 tsp baking powder
Filling and decoration
  • butter soft, for spreading on the sheet
  • sugar for sprinkling
  • ground cinnamon
  • egg yolk for brushing the rolls
  • decorative sprinkles or poppy seeds, or nuts

Method

  1. Sift the flour into a bowl with the baking powder, salt, and sugar. Add the cold margarine and rub it into the flour until crumbly. Pour in the cold milk, add the egg white, and knead the dough. Let it rest on the counter for 10 minutes.
  2. Pinch off a piece of dough and roll it out into a thin rectangular sheet. Spread with butter and sprinkle with sugar and cinnamon. Cut lengthwise slits into the sheet, stopping short of the edge.
  3. Roll the sheet up into a log.
  4. Twist the log into a ring and pinch the ends together.
  5. Arrange the rolls on parchment paper, brush with egg yolk, and sprinkle with poppy seeds, nuts, or decorative sprinkles. Bake for 30 minutes at 180°C.
  6. Let the finished rolls cool and serve. Enjoy!

Notes

Many thanks to home cook Meyriban for this recipe. The dough is yeast-free, so the rolls can be baked in about an hour.
